  • Shodashopachara: Shodashopachara is worship; there are 16 steps of worship conducted daily, which include bathing the god’s idol with panchamrit, applying paste of sandalwood, offering flowers, and other spiritual activities.

  • Uttarpuja: The Ritual is performed just before the end of Ganesh Visarjan, involves expressing gratitude, performing the final prayers to God, and preparing the deity's departure.

  • Visarjan: This is the last ritual of the Ganesh Chaturthi ceremony; the idol is carried near a body of water, and then a great farewell is performed by the devotees with music and dance, chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya”.  

Ganpati Visarjan

Ganpati Visarjan takes place at the end of the Ganesh Chaturthi. It is the last day of the festival. During this event, devotees have a procession to a body of water to immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha. This is done while singing and praying to the Lord and chanting “Ganpathi Bappa Mourya”.

The ritual conveys to the devotees the message of the cycle of the creation and dissolution and the existence of Lord Ganesha in his abode. Families also perform their last aarti and immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha while extending their wishes for peace and prosperity for the coming year.
